YUN NAM HAIR CARE REVIEW [part 2]

As many of you already knew that I'm going through hair treatment at Yun Nam Hair Care,
here is an update of the treatment.

Ok now I'm gonna showcase a few photos that many will find disturbing; not put-a-puppy-in-the-washing-machine kind of disgusting, but insect-under-microscope kind of disgusting. There you have been pre-warned..

This are the BEFORE (above) AFTER (below) shots of the first session I visited (for deep cleansing).
Basically there are a lot of these oil and dead skin accumulation on your scalp that you can't see with your naked eye. Overtime these rubbish clogs up your pores and prevents hair from growing.

This is the comparison photo for WEEK 1 (above) and WEEK 4 (below). Notice that the scalp is now clear of nasty accumulates and are breathing properly; more importantly the bald patches are sprouting thin fine whimpy hairs, which will strengthen over the next few session.

It's not magic, like you wake up the next morning with an afro. Visually, you can observe the fine little hair starting to grow back on the "M" arch.

The experience has been quite interesting and educational, watching my scalp under the microscope and waiting for my hair to grow..

Let's take a look at some of the product that I use at home in conjunction with the treatment

  1. Herbalogy Ginseng Shampoo 人参草药洗发液
  2. Hair Renewal Lotion 酸碱露
  3. Hair Cleansing Lotion 洗发露
  4. Hair Nutritional Lotion 养发露
  5. Hair Nourishing Essence
  6. Jasmine Herbal Conditioner

Looks quite quite a lot of products to use, but it's actually quite intuitive. They have labels and you just mix them together when shampooing or simply just rub over your scalp. The products leaves your scalp clean and refreshing, smelling of ginseng.

YUN NAM HAIR CARE REVIEW [part 1]

Recently I noticed that my hair line has been receding like a coastal region. Of course I'm not as young as I used to be and ought to see this coming at some point of time. Being a stressed up Singaporean like every other, I also sleep late and eat out a lot. So that's probably why I'm facing this brutal hair loss crisis, so I decided to try out Yun Nam Hair Care.

About Yun Nam Hair Care
Focused on results, service and customer care, Yun Nam Hair Care is a recognised leader in the hair care industry well-known for their comprehensive range of effective treatments.
Using top-grade natural herbs to overcome all kinds of hair problems, Yun Nam's greatest achievement lies in their ability to restore the healthy hair and confidence of their clients. To date, their customised herbalogy treatments have helped countless male and female customers regain their crowning glory. Since its establishment in 1984, Yun Nam Hair Care has expanded rapidly to a total of 27 outlets in Singapore and Malaysia.
A winner of the prestigious Superbrands Awards from 2008 to 2010 and 2013, based on a Hair, Face and Body Brand Awareness Survey conducted by Connecting Insights Consultants' in August 2010, Yun Nam Hair Care has also been awarded the No. 1 Recommended Brand, the Most Effective Brand, the Most Trusted Brand and the No. 1 Recognised Hair Care Brand in Singapore.

I'm guessing 9 out of 10 readers skipped the paragraph above. So why Yun Nam Hair Care? I supposed they have been around for the longest period of time, so they should be the most reliable.

Anyway I arrived at the Plaza Singapura outlet at Level 2 (between the toilet and carpark entrance) feeling the jitters. Due to my shy nature (as if), I was a bit paisey when I went into the care centre, but the staff there were all so cheerful and friendly. Every staff that is within an arm's length smiles, nods or greets you. Top notch service, I say.

I visited on the first day of reopening after renovation, everything was super new. The ambience was very relaxing.

The main hall looks like a salon and you get to choose your favourite "fengshui" seat.

If you are the shy type, there are also private rooms with sliding doors.

Hair washing area

I was brought to one of the Consultation Room and my consultant, Michelle, did a scan on my scalp...

I was a bit shocked by the results..

Here's a magnified view of my disgusting scalp. So basically, I have oily scalp and those white patches are sorta like hardened oil patches and clogged pores and I'm due to go bald in 5-10 years. GG

Michelle giving me an overview of my tragic hair problems and a treatment plan.

I was given some tea and snacks to stop me from crying. Just kidding, it's for all visitors.

So what we are going to do today is Deep Cleansing of the scalp.

With the help of these secret herbal paste that looks like 芝麻糊 (sesame dessert) but smells like ginseng. Also from my research, I noticed that Yun Nam Hair Care, unlike its competitors, uses herbal paste instead of clear liquid/chemical.

After applying the paste, my hair was put to steam (like making kueh).

Ok let's look at the from the Deep Cleansing. The top image shows "before" and the bottom image shows "after".

From one session, we cleared out most of the oil patches cemented onto my scalp and cleared the oil and old sebum around the hair roots. Shiok!

I mean.. everyone has a different hair problem (Male Pattern Hair Loss, Female Pattern Hair Loss, Premature Hair Loss, Post-natal Hair Loss, Hereditary Hair Loss, Ring-shaped Hair Loss, Mediterranean Hair Loss, Patch Baldness, Grey hair, Dandruff, Oily Scalp, Sensitive Scalp, Scalp Infection, Hair Loss due to Chronic Illnesses.. etc) and early treatment is always easier.

Old Airport Road Lor Mee (Tampines)

Old Airport Road Lor Mee Prawn Mee
旧机场卤面虾面

Everyday Come Coffee Shop 天天來
BLK 477 Tampines Street 44

Opening hours: 10am - 3pm

According to my dad, the store was doing so-so at Old Airport Road. It seems to be extremely popular here in Tampines; super long queues, huge orders, sell-outs by noon..

Lor Mee 卤面
$3 (no fish)
$4
$5
Very generous serving of ingredients with tasty gravy. Well marinated egg, thick slices of fish and ngor hiang. Some foodies may find the gravy not garlic-y enough, but I think it's perfect. Hints of salted fish at the right amount of thickness.

Prawn Noodles 虾面
$4/$5 (软骨虾面)
$5 (大虾面)
Not impressed by the very mediocre prawn noodles. Let's just stick with Lor Mee.

Bad Clinic Experience (Singapore)

I'm gonna share a story that covers a few  of my observations (from a service professional and Master in Human Resource Management perspective) when visiting a corporate clinic at Raffles Place yesterday.

1. First impressions. While waiting for my number to be called, a doctor was yelling at the receptionist about some mistake she made. Take it somewhere else, lady. We don't need to know how badly trained your staff is.

2. I was supposed to do a chest X-Ray (which was where most of the hell happened). Before the scan, I was hearing the entire conversation between the two receptionists. The young man was complaining about how he has had enough, with the lady trying to coax him. Again, take your feud behind closed doors.

3. After the scan, the assistant mumbled from another room telling me that I'm done for the day and I can leave. First, have the basic respect to talk to my face and don't mumble. I had to walk to the other room just to confirm she was talking to me.

4. So I made my departure when my phone rang. The reception asked for me to come back to the clinic because I'm wasn't done with the medical. WTF SERIOUSLY? Did the X-Ray staff just pranked me or is it bad communication?

5. I went back to the clinic to have my blood pressure taken blah blah blah.. Then I realised the friendly male doctor has nails of Wolverine. They are protruding at least 1.5cm out of his fingers. Tryna kill me with those claws?

Highly unprofessional. Will not visit if I had to pay for it.

Pencak Silat at Malay Wedding

Pencak Silat performance at a Traditional Malay Wedding in Singapore, accompanied by Kendang/Gendang (drums).

The "Bodyguards" will display the Pencak Silat or Pentjak Silat (martial arts stances with or without weapons) to symbolise their protection and blessing for the wedding couple.

Pencak means performance, Silat means fighting or self-defense. Origins can be traced back to prehistoric Javanese tribes where this set of tradition were passed down entirely by word of mouth.

Joe visits Singapore

My mate from Brisbane, Joe, came to visit. So we brought him to dinner at Chinatown. The Mid-Autumn Festival decorations are up.

Dr. Cafe Chinatown Point
1-for-1 tall coffee

Chinatown Complex Claypot Chicken Rice

Smith Street Taps
Crafted beer

Harry's Riverside Point
The food is pretty good but the service is from hell. Wait staff making eye contact with you and looking the other way. They don't approach you till you wave frantically at them. There's a dead fly in the menu and it takes them 15min to get us some iced water. We are all from the hospitality industry and we know the staff to guest ratio is more than sufficient. The only decent service was from the Malay bartender. Un-fucking-believable!

Parkway Parade Steamboat Finale (Roxy Square)

We read from celebrity Michelle Chong's Facebook that the iconic Parkway Parade Steamboat is closing down early September due to the lack in manpower; so we decided to pay this nostalgic eatery a visit.

B1-14 Roxy Square
50 East Coast Road

Opening hours: Daily 10:30am - 10:30pm

As usual the dishes are quite expensive but rather tasty. The chilli dip provided is spicy and delicious.

Tables were clean and service was prompt despite the full-house on Sunday night.

Our damage was $25 per person (excluding drinks).
